Owned servers in Kazakhstan are placed in colocation: the equipment stays yours, and the data center provides power, cooling, physical access and network paths. On the Akashi Data Center campus in Astana there are three formats — server cabinet rental, a private cage and a dedicated server room. The first phase is scheduled for May 2027, so the path today starts with a request and a capacity reservation, not with installing hardware in an open hall.

Where do the servers go?

The campus is at street С316, site 7, Astana. It is an industrial site with four independent optical entries and two independent 110 kV power feeds. Colocation here means placing your own equipment: the client owns the servers and sets the configuration, and the facility provides the engineering contour and access.

The criteria used to compare reliability class, kilowatts and connectivity are covered separately, in Colocation in Kazakhstan: how to choose a data center. Below is the practical route at Akashi: which format to take, what to prepare, and how to get from the request to the rack.

Which format: cabinet, cage or room?

A cabinet is one lockable rack of up to 20 kW. The site specifies a width of 1200 mm, coded access and dual PDUs. You can start with a single cabinet and grow to 1,000+; that is a commercial scale, not the engineering ceiling of the campus. The campus as a whole is planned for 4,224 racks across four DC buildings.

A cage is a dedicated section of the hall for several racks, with its own perimeter. Access is limited to authorized staff, around the clock, without renting an entire room. Standard and non-standard cabinets of any size can be placed inside. Power is guaranteed for the cage load on the same campus feeds: two independent 110 kV sources, UPS with 5/4N redundancy, and 12 hours of generator autonomy.

A dedicated room is an isolated space under the client’s full control. Cooling, access, monitoring and fire suppression are set to the client’s requirements. The room includes on-site workspaces for the team and 24/7 support.

A practical rule. Standard servers in standard cabinets — cabinet rental. Your own perimeter around a group of racks — a cage. A whole hall and custom engineering — a dedicated server room.

What should you check and prepare before the request?

Come to sales with the parameters of your hardware, not with the question of whether racks exist.

  • How many racks you need and the power per rack. Cabinet rental on the site is specified at up to 20 kW.
  • A standard 1200 mm cabinet or a non-standard size. Non-standard cabinets are placed in a cage.
  • Whether you need a separate access perimeter and on-site workspaces for the team.
  • The date by which the equipment must be powered. The first phase (DC-1) is May 2027.
  • Whether the hardware needs a physical address in Kazakhstan. How colocation closes that contour is covered in the site-selection guide.

Reliability class, and what of it lands in the contract, is in Tier III or Tier IV and on the Tier IV page. What the invoice is made of is in the colocation cost structure. An international team entering the country with its own fleet will also want the separate checklist.

How do the request and the reservation work?

The request is left on the contacts page: name, company, phone, email and a message. Sales replies within one business day, by email and phone, runs a technical pre-qualification and a check of available capacity, and sends a tailored proposal with pricing, timelines and technical details. An NDA is available on request. You can also write directly: sales.department@akashi.cloud, phone +7 700 810 3010.

A reservation is discussed with sales. It is not picked from a catalogue of free racks. Before launch, the first-phase pipeline is 107% of DC-1 capacity: 5.54 MW is reserved. Why it is worth locking power, density and dates before the hall opens is covered in reserving colocation before launch.

What should you allow for before the equipment arrives?

Until the hall is handed over, what gets prepared is a specification, not a shipment. When the phase is ready for installation, the campus specifies two loading terminals with freight elevators, a floor load of 2 tons per m² and a raised floor of 1.6 m. It is worth checking the mass and size of cabinets and pallets against those parameters in advance.

For a cabinet, the site states a width of 1200 mm, coded access and dual PDUs. The list of people with access is better assembled before delivery: only authorized staff enter a cage, and a dedicated room includes on-site workspaces and 24/7 support on site.

Construction progress is published on the construction progress page.

What does TCDD mean at the moment of placement?

The design documents of the first phase hold Uptime TCDD Tier IV (Certification of Design Documents). That confirms the design, not the built hall. The on-site audit of the constructed facility — TCCF (Certification of Constructed Facility) — is planned for April 2027. TCDD is not TCCF. Designed availability at Tier IV level is 99.995%.

The engineering contour the placement relies on: two independent power entries in an active/active scheme with 110 kV redundancy, UPS with 5/4N redundancy and up to 10 minutes of battery backup, and backup generators with 12 hours of autonomy at full load.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I start if I need to place servers in Kazakhstan? With a request on the contacts page: format (cabinet, cage or room), rack count, power per rack and the date. Sales replies within one business day and sends a proposal with pricing, timelines and technical details.

Can equipment be installed in the hall today? The first phase is scheduled for May 2027. Until then, what gets locked is a reservation of power and configuration. The DC-1 pipeline is already 107% of capacity: 5.54 MW is reserved.

How does a cabinet differ from a cage and a dedicated room? A cabinet is one rack of up to 20 kW. A cage is several racks behind their own perimeter. A dedicated room is the whole hall under the client’s control, with custom engineering.

What should I prepare besides the request text? Power and rack count, cabinet size (standard 1200 mm width or non-standard), the list of authorized people and the go-live date. Check mass and size against a floor load of 2 tons per m² and a 1.6 m raised floor.

Does TCDD mean the hall is already certified as built? No. TCDD confirms the design documents. TCCF is the audit of the constructed facility, planned for April 2027. First-phase launch is May 2027.
