Construction has begun in Kazakhstan’s capital on Central Asia’s first Tier IV data center. The project is led by Akashi Data Center, with completion of the first phase targeted for early 2026.
The facility will host about 4,000 server racks, more than doubling Kazakhstan’s current capacity of roughly 3,800 racks and addressing a nationwide shortage of compute. Tier IV certification from Uptime Institute means less than 26 minutes of downtime per year — essential for finance, banking, and government workloads.
The project is expected to support up to 10,000 jobs and broader economic growth. Local data storage and processing strengthen Kazakhstan’s cyber sovereignty and reduce reliance on foreign infrastructure.
Together with the AIFC, Astana Hub, and telecom infrastructure, the campus positions Astana as a landing zone for global tech companies — cloud providers, streaming, and e-commerce — while creating opportunities for local talent and adjacent industries.
