India’s Economic Times highlighted construction in Astana of Central Asia’s first Tier IV data center — the Akashi Data Center project, with first-phase completion targeted for early 2026.
The campus will host about 4,000 server racks, more than doubling Kazakhstan’s current capacity of roughly 3,800 racks and easing a compute shortage. Tier IV means under 26 minutes of downtime per year — a bar finance, banking, and government workloads require. Up to 10,000 jobs and spillover growth are expected.
The paper also flags an India angle: as an IT and fintech power, India could offer regional expertise as new infrastructure comes online. Paired with the AIFC, Astana Hub, and telecom connectivity, the project strengthens Kazakhstan’s cyber sovereignty and puts Astana on the map for global tech companies.
