Akashi Data Center and China Mobile signed a memorandum of understanding at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Digital Economy Forum. The forum took place on 11 July 2025 in Tianjin, China.
The MoU covers intelligent data-center infrastructure, AI industry development, and building compute capacity in Kazakhstan. Akashi says this is China Mobile’s first project in Kazakhstan, underscoring the region’s rising weight in the global digital economy.
The partners will focus on deploying compute for international AI models and developing intelligent industry hubs. Akashi expects the partnership to strengthen Kazakhstan’s role as a Central Asian digital hub and open new paths for innovation and growth.
Akashi is Kazakhstan’s largest data-center project: construction of the region’s first Tier IV facility began on 17 June, with first-phase launch planned for Q1 2026. China Mobile is the world’s largest mobile operator by subscribers.
