Major technology corporations, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, are considering locating their data centers in Kazakhstan due to attacks on their infrastructure in the Middle East.
At the Kursiv forum, Vladislav Minkevich, CEO of the AKASHI Data Center being built in Astana, commented on the situation. According to him, “about five data centers were destroyed in the Middle East. These were targeted strikes against Amazon.”
Minkevich noted that companies are beginning to move “to assets in countries with a more stable geopolitical environment.” He added that pre-orders for their data center have already reached 103%, with 15% of that coming in just the past six weeks.
Kazakhstan is developing the “Valley of Data Centers” project at 300 MW capacity, while AKASHI Data Center in Astana is designed for 100 MW. For comparison, Saudi Arabia had 250–300 MW of capacity in 2025, with plans to expand to 2.2 GW by 2028.
Minkevich expressed confidence that “in a year and a half or two years, we’ll say that 400 or 500 MW is not enough. We’ll probably need to multiply by five.”
